Rineke Dijkstra

I heard about Rineke Dijkstra through the Image Makers Image Takers book I just got. In her interview, she talks about her use of the 4x5 camera and balancing location strobes with daylight. I enjoy the way she sets up her portraits and lighting.
When I Googled her, she showed up just about everywhere. I am surprised I had not heard of her before. I really like the images that I have seen in the book, but I could not find a website of hers any where. Maybe someone else knows.

New Books

I got two new books recently, A Letter To a Young Artist and Image Makers, Image Takers. I was needing some good reading and I read in Stephen Shore interview about A Letter To a Young Artist. Then Amazon said I might like Image Makers, Image Takers, and I really do!

From Amazon, A Letter To a Young Artist, "This pocket-sized book contains a collection of two dozen letters all commissioned from established artists to a fictitious 'young artist,' a recent art-school graduate who is struggling with the moral and practical implications of being an artist in New York. "
The best part is, its only $11.50!

And also from Amazon, "Image Takers Image Makers this guide to photography draws upon in-depth interviews with established photographers from the fields of fashion, art, portraiture, documentary photography, and advertising as well as comments from picture editors, curators, agency directors, and publishers who reveal what they look for when choosing an image." It has interviews with Steven Shore, William Eggleston, Rankin, David LaChapelle and a bucha other good folks.

Meet my website!

In the past couple months my website has gone through a lot of changes. I changed the color scheme, added two new sections, linked to my blog, changed my info and added basically all new photographs. I have done so many things, but it seems like there is always more to do.
One thing I have not figured out is why Safari and Internet Explorer give me problems. Someone help!

Go check me out! www.GrahamWalzer.com

ps, let me know if you have any problems

Lindsey Castillo

I think I may have found Lindsey Castillo through the Wanderlustagraphy blog. I really like her series of portraits, they are intimate, soft.

Eden Batki

Eden Batikin was in the Mageneta Flash Forward 2007 book. I honestly didn't like the images represented in the book but after looking through her website I really love the work. The section NY, LA, SF is great and she also an interesting section called Starry Skies and Cutouts.

Geordie Wood

I can't remember where I found Geordie Wood because I wrote it down in my little black book without any side notes. Finally, days later, I am checking him out. I like the use of color and 6x9 format. My favorite sections are, Broken Things and Slidel, LA.

Boogie

If you like street photography and haven't heard of Boogie, you need to check him out. There is some really shocking and sad images on his site. Also, Drugs section is not for the faint of heart.

Fette's Gallery Culver City!

On Friday I went to visit Fette's Gallery for my first time. Fette and her husband were amazingly friendly and the space was great. They converted a 3 bedroom house to an open airy art gallery. The wood floors and homey feel really separate it from the rest.

The only downfall was the fact they were packing up to go to the SWAB art fair in Barcelona so the place was a bit messy. If you are in Culver City, go check it out.

Las Vegas

I will be going out of town tomorrow for a little pre-birthday celebration. I won't be back on here until Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
I'll post on Fette's gallery when I return. See yall then!

Fette Gallery

I'm really excited to visit the Fette Gallery later today. I heard about it through ANP Quarterly. I'll have some picture and a review tomorrow. YAH!!!

Postcards

Another Postcard I picked up at the SFMOMA. This was for a show Eggleston had at the NYMOMA. I wish I could have been there to see it.
I do have the William Eggleston book Guide, which is great. The colors are fantastic.
